COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been exposed to COVID 19 or diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition on the COVID 19 Notification Form (available via a link on the Student Code of Conduct COVID19 webpage). Course Information
Description In-depth study and applications of polynomial, rational, radical, exponential and logarithmic functions, and systems of equations using matrices. Additional topics such as sequences, series, probability, and conics may be included.
Prerequisites Corequisite: MATH 1314
Prerequisite: See Placement Guidelines, page 16, of the LSCPA College Catalog
Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
1. Define, represent, and perform operations on real and complex numbers.
2. Recognize, understand, and analyze features of a function.
3. Recognize and use algebraic (field) properties, concepts, procedures (including factoring),
and algorithms to combine, transform, and evaluate absolute value, polynomial, radical,
and rational expressions.
4. Identify and solve absolute value, polynomial, radical, and rational equations.
5. Identify and solve absolute value and linear inequalities.
6. Model, interpret and justify mathematical ideas and concepts using multiple
representations.
7. Connect and use multiple strands of mathematics in situations and problems, as well as in
the study of other disciplines.
Core Objectives PSLO ALPHA: Demonstrates comprehension of content-area reading material. Identifies all main ideas, supporting
details, and vocabulary in reading material; demonstrates a full understanding of the reading.

Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral and visual communication.

Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis,
evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts and constructing solutions.

Empirical and Quantitative Skills: Students will demonstrate applications of scientific and mathematical concepts.

Grading Scale Math 0314 is based on Pass (Satisfactory) or Fail (Unsatisfactory)
Math 0314 in-class exercises will be graded on the scale of Pass (70-100) or Fail (Below 70)
Determination of
Final Grade
Your Math 0314 final grade will consist of attendance and scheduled graded in-class exercises.

Your MATH 1314 grade is completely separate from this grade. You may reference your specific MATH 1314 College Algebra course for the determination of your MATH 1314 Final Grade.

Support Course Forms may be turned in upon entering the classroom to receive credit for being present.
Attendance Policy You will be required to sign a sign-in sheet at the beginning of each class period. If you do not sign in, you will be marked absent. If you are more than 15 minutes late for class, you will be marked absent and will not be allowed to sign in. A roll call may be given at the end of the class period to ensure accuracy of the sign-in sheet.

If you arrive on time, remain in class until the class is dismissed by the instructor, and actively participate during the class period (performing in-class assignments or completing any other activity assigned by the instructor), you will earn 100 points for that day. Students who miss class, sleep in class, social network or text in class, or do not work on assignments will receive a grade of 0 for the day.

Attendance in this class is a matter of state law--5 absences may result in immediate course failure. (This would mean that you missed 2 1/2 weeks of class).
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
